Nova – Pavilion & Communal Spaces
FLINT were appointed by Land Securities in 2011 to undertake full Interior Design and Interior Architecture services on a range of residents’ amenity spaces within The Nova Building, including a Cinema, Fitness Suite, Meeting Rooms and a Rooftop Pavilion containing a Residents Club Lounge with an external terrace and garden.
FLINT worked with the client team to develop elegant and contemporary spaces, distinct in their individuality, but following an overall design aesthetic, to give a subtle continuity of experience through the building.
FLINT were also responsible for full technical designs, encompassing all RIBA work stages and are currently delivering the project which is scheduled to complete in the summer of 2016.
Rooftop Pavilion, Residents Club Lounge:
The club lounge is located on the 9th floor and is for the exclusive use of the residents and their guests. Elegant, yet informal, the interior is a series of flexible spaces including a lounge area, a self-service kitchen/bar counter and café style seating. The room is open to residents for their individual use but it can also be reserved exclusively for group events.
The space is lined with timber wall panelling concealing wardrobes, storage and AV equipment as well as a full self-service kitchen/bar behind sliding doors. The bar is complemented by a 6 metre long stainless steel island unit containing fridges and storage on one side and bar-stool seating on the other. By day, the space is bathed in natural light, while at night an intimate mood is realised with low lighting and a real fire.
An acoustically challenging project, given its proximity to the apartments above, the cinema accommodates 18 seats with 2 spaces for wheelchair users. The space is intended to be used for projection and entertaining in general and is supported by an accompanying bar and back-of-house kitchen.
The interior is designed for outstanding audio-visual quality, optimised acoustic performance and supreme user comfort. The overall construction is that of a lightweight ‘box-in-box.’ The inner box is softer, lined with acoustic fabric panels and containing two tiers of sumptuous adjustable seating; the outer is harder, lined in timber acoustic panels and containing a high resolution projector, screen and AV equipment.
The whole is expressed as a rich, dark space, with ambient lighting and soft pinhead down lights that give the room warmth and softness.
