SHEPHERD’S BUSH HOTEL

AN ART DECO INSPIRED LANTERN–LIKE VOLUME WITH MATERIALS AND FINISHES THAT REFERENCE THE PERIOD.

Originally built in the 1920’s as an Art Deco cinema, the Grade II listed Shepherds Bush Pavilion has since been converted into a four-star, 317 key hotel for Dorsett with associated leisure and retail facilities.

Working closely with Flanagan Lawrence Architects, the building’s exterior, conceived in the golden age of cinema, strongly influenced the interior architecture and design of the spaces within. The entrance foyer is a grand lantern–like volume set behind the original brick entrance arch, while the atrium and bar, opening off the reception, and rising to the full height of the hotel, is unexpected and magnificent. Materials, finishes and details reference the Art Deco period with curved surfaces in alternating bands of black and gold contrasting with a honey-coloured Jerusalem limestone floor. Dark stained timber profiles clad areas of wall on the ground floor, concealing doors and aiding sound absorption.
